Facial Overfilled Syndrome Complications of Inappropriate Filler Delivery

FACIAL OVERFILLED SYNDROME COMPLICATIONS OF INAPPROPRIATE FILLER DELIVERY Ting Song Lim, MD Medical Director, Clique Clinic, Selangor, Malaysia. ABSTRACT Facial overfilled syndrome is a commonly-observed complication of soft-tissue filler use and is characterized by excessive facial volumization, resulting in a distortion of facial functional anatomy and topography. Using a 3-D imaging system (the Quantificare 3D LifeViz® Micro), a validated facial topography quantification tool, the author demonstrates the features of facial overfilled syndrome and provides an hypotheses for the causes as well as discuss how dermal filler overload can be produced by inaccurately assessing a patient’s face, selecting inappropriate fillers, and placing products incorrectly. Most of all, the author suggests that physicians who overzealously chase lifting results with dermal fillers are most prone to producing patients who develop facial overfilled syndrome. In many cases, lack ...

Brief communication about injectable fillers in aesthetic medicine (Part 2)

Brief communication about injectable fillers in aesthetic medicine (Part 2) Dr Sky Wong  Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) It is a non-cross-linked cellulose derivative that forms bioabsorbable gel with water to give immediate filling effect and structural support to tissues. It is not usually given alone but as a suspension and texture modifier mixed with other filler materials, commonly Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) and Polycaprolactone (PCL). It provides immediate volume effect and allows these primary materials enough time to exert their biostimulatory effect to produce collagen which fills up the site of interest before the CMC degrades and was resorbed. The rate of resorption of CMC depends on the molecular sizes [1] but there is no clinical data available during the literature search. Autologous fat Autologous fat is a long history filler since century ago. Despite perfectly compatible, adipocyte survival rate which directly affects the outcome and longevit...
